The absolute hottest ticket at the SSA 2018 Reno Convention was flying the Perlan Flight Simulator. We were maxed out all three days, with over 150 folks getting a real taste of flying high. There was no charge to fly, but the signup sheet showed lots of evidence of pilot name changing! I think there may have been some ticket scalping going on, but “what happens in Nevada, stays in Nevada.”
Overheard conversations all through the convention started “Could you land it?” One pilot proudly told me they had successfully landed the simulator……it just wasn’t on the runway. Ouch! However there were some successful landings, just usually not the first attempt.
Our stalwart simulator workers included Tim, Morgan, Ed, Alec and Scott. Tim also assembled a helmet and rebreather system and an insulated flight suit for all to see.
Thanks particularly to Linda for lots of photos. Thanks to SoaringNV and SAF Sports Aviation Foundation for hosting the simulator in their booth. Both groups are sponsors of the Perlan Project. The SSA is also a long term sponsor of Perlan Project. And thanks to Classical Tahoe for providing fabulous music for our 30 minute loop of gorgeous tail camera footage edited by Tim Davis and Ken Dworkin.
We enjoyed sharing our story with all the SSA convention attendees.
