Walt Rogers

Walter Rogers retired from NOAA National Weather Service in 2010 managing a Center Weather Service Unit at the FAA’s ARTCC. There he provided professional aviation weather briefings for air traffic management over almost 30 years. His real passion is with gliding which started in 1968. He is an active Standard Class racing pilot in his Discus 2A with over 4600 hours and holds the 2008 Western Barron Hilton Cup winner for the longest Standard Class glider FAI triangle flight. Walt is recognized as “WX” – competition number on his glider to fellow glider pilots. Operational weather support and soaring contest briefings are what he is known for. He has provided briefings for the Voyager aircraft non-stop around the world flight in 1986 and forecast support for Perlan II World Record attempts in Argentina during 2018 and 2019. Since retirement, Mr Rogers has continued to engage in consulting activities for other aviation flight test operations with expertise from the atmospheric boundary layer to the stratosphere. He is a member of the American Meteorological Society and an active National Weather Association member serving on the aviation committee. Walt currently resides in Palmdale, California.
