A test pilot for the US Air Force at Edwards Air Force Base, California, Roger is a member of the Test Pilot School (TPS) and part of the F-16 Combined Test Force staff. He instructs on both the F-16 and gliders, and teaches the Stall, Departure and Spin Testing part of the TPS curriculum.
Growing up in the south suburbs of Chicago, Roger attended the University of Illinois (at Champagne/Urbana) where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science and Master of Science in Aeronautical Engineering. The University of Illinois had a glider club where he became interested in gliders and earned his glider rating.
After college, Roger initially worked for the Boeing Company in Seattle as an aircraft performance engineer, then entered the Air Force and became an F-15 fighter pilot on NORAD alert in Alaska. Following that service he returned to pilot training as an instructor, moving to Edwards AFB to attend USAF Test Pilot School (TPS).
On weekends he flight instructs in gliders in Tehachapi at Mountain Valley Airport in nearby Tehachapi and flies his ASW-20 as much as possible.
