February 2016

Perlan Project was well represented at the Soaring Society of America’s convention in Greenville, SC. The SSA is an early sponsor of Perlan’s flight computers. Dennis Tito, a major Perlan sponsor had his new jet Arcus on display. Bob Carlton and Mark Mocho have done a fabulous job installing the powerful self launching one of a kind jet into a Schemp-Hirth Arcus sailplane. Dennis received his SSA gold medal for Out and Return. Jim Payne got a SSA gold medal for triangle distance.

On Saturday Jim gave a presentation about the inception, history, build, and test flying the Perlan 2 glider. It was very well attended. They enjoyed sharing experiences with yet another one of a kind sailplane builder – Dick Butler and his Concordia.  On Saturday night at the awards banquet Jim and Dennis received their OLC awards. Dennis was third in the world for speed, third in USA for distance. Jim was first in world for speed and first for distance. On Sunday it was back to Minden to work on the Perlan 2.
