Container Away!

Jul 8, 2016 | Blog

July 7, 2016 was Perlan 2 loading day. The all up weight of loaded container was about 17,000 pounds or 8,000 kg. (Jim and Greg split the betting pool on all up weight.) The team in photo from the right Jim, Stewart, Greg, Doug, Morgan, and Jackie have put in incredibly long hours for days and weeks.

That’s sparkling apple cider that we are toasting the success of Perlan Project. (After hot loading conditions, no one chose the champagne I also had chilled.) Jim is holding a second glass to represent our missing members! Totally unscripted, we stood back to watch Morgan and Jim share the honors of closing and locking the container doors. That handshake represents years of effort to get the Perlan 2 designed, built, flight tested, and ready for flying in El Calafate, Argentina. The entire team thanks early sponsor Morgan Sandercock, major sponsor Dennis Tito, and title sponsor Airbus Group, and`United Technologies for their financial support. Check out the Perlan sponsor page to see the amazing group of in-kind sponsorship. Perlan soars because of the dedication of our volunteers and strong sponsorship! Jackie
